Though her first role was in the Ang Lee film “The Ice Storm”, Katie Holmes will forever be known as Joey, best friend and true love to James Van Der Beek’s Dawson, from the seminal 90s series “Dawson’s Creek”. This was her breakthrough role, and her most popular one too. Her popularity at that time gave her the chance to do film roles soon after too, being one of the “It” girls of her era. During the show’s first year of broadcast, she became part of the cast of the teen slasher flick “Disturbing Behavior”, directed by “Dawson’s Creek” creator Kevin Williamson.

A role in the ensemble indie “Go” followed, then an uncredited cameo with Dawson in “Muppets In Space”. The rest of her career in movies is pretty unremarkable, compared to the impact she made as a cast member of “Dawson’s Creek”, though there are some good films and minor hits, among other milestones. “Wonder Boys” was an Oscar-nominated film for example, while “The Gift” was a landmark due to it having her first nude appearance on film. She regularly made films throughout the 2000s, although “Batman Begins” in 2005 remains her most popular and biggest box-office movie to date. Since then she has done a few more movies, like “Thank You For Smoking” and “Mad Money”, although none with the buzz of her Batman film or the popularity of her TV work. She doesn’t really need any of that to hog the headlines anyway, since she is now Mrs. Tom Cruise, and everything she does is covered by the cameras whether or not she’s working on a film. Her role as Katie Holmes is looking like it’s going to be her hottest one to date.
